First of all is that you must watch the film. Really, see it. I recommend watching it to everybody. It makes no difference if you like or not this kind of films, I’m sure that at the end you could get something positive and if it doesn’t pass it’s not a problem because you had enjoyed a really good film.

Into the wild is a film I saw for the first time three years ago. Then I have seen it twice more and the last one was at the beginning of this year. The film is about a boy called Christopher McCandless who after finish his university studies he decide to leave her comfortable live behind and go to find adventures away from his family, friends and the society who he thinks is bad and he must escape. He wants live the life. Christopher McCandless began his trip to find the happiness and freedom going through California, Oregon, South of Dakota and other places without any money or possessions. During the first part of his trip he knows many people who spend great times and they help Christopher to stand the live. But McCandless wants to live more in contact with the nature and he decides to go to Alaska.

Only with a shotgun and some books about edible plants he tries to live in an abandoned caravan that he can find. Little by little he has trying to find the sense of the life but the site is not the appropriate and he ends dyeing lonely in the middle of the nature.

This story is about a real boy from decade of 90^th in North America. During his trip he is writing his thinks and adventures and this is why we can know about him.

One of the reasons that I really like the film is because is based in real facts, the story is all true. It is a fil that you can watch as many times as you want because you always will pay attention in different things, facts or sentences that you haven’t seen before. And in depend of the age that you are you will be interesting in different facts. Thereby you never get tired of seeing.

Another reason is that this film makes you think about a lot of things after see it like which is what we want, how the society is, our responsibilities… But the first question that goes through your hair is: I would be able to do the same? Probably a lot of people agree with Christopher about his vision of the society and the world but they never would do the same. I think that Christopher do something that a lot of people had thought to do in any stage of their life. He goes to find what he is finding: the real happiness, the sense of life and freedom, outside the society where he lives.

Apart the story or the message, the film has great images and dialogues. Images from Alaska landscape or scenes when he is walking for the road are very good. Also appear characters very different between them but they all with a different vision of the world. They teach something new about life and how they life it. All this characters exist in the real live and the film show them very well.

To end I like to get my opinion about what Christopher did. Is true that he was very brave and he went to find what he want and for what he care. Also is true that sometimes is good and we need disconnect from the world for a long time and go to find yourself. But maybe he is a little selfish because he didn’t think in that what give you a part of your happiness: your family and friends. Although you could become angry with them, but they had been with you in best and worst times and you never should forget them. Finally Christopher understand that and he said: “Happiness is only real when shared”.  

I know that it is a quiet philosophical film and during the film are saying a lot of quotes. I have found some interesting, beautiful and really good for thinking in apply them for some moment in your lives.  They are about how to live the live, our mentality to face it that must be always positive for we can enjoy it. Also they should be present in our day a day to make it more comfortable and we can spend good times in any situation.  I have tried to choose some of them:

                 "I read somewhere that life is not as important as being strong feeling strong.”

                 “The best I can do with death is trying to enjoy life”.

                “Happiness is only real when shared”.

And if I have not still been able to persuade you to watch Into the Wild I have to add another reason to watch it: the music. The music is very very very good and is perfect to the film.

Should we engineer animals to be smart like humans?

Humans have been thinking for a long time that the only difference between our specie and the rest of the animals is our level of intelligence and our sophisticate language and speech system. But well, what will happening if we know how to put an others species in our same level of intelligence?

That idea is not as far as it seems. One study realized by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology about the relationship between the intelligence and genes, engineered mousses to produce the human gene that is responsible to the learns brain capacity and the speech process.

The result of one of the test was exiting. The mouse with the new gene learned one route faster than the mousse without it.  But it means that can we create animals with news levels of intelligence? This concept knows as “uplifting”.

Uplifting was explored in the past by the science fiction, but now it has parallels with the real research. In 2011 a research team from North Carolina used monkeys to investigate how restarts the lost control in illness, like Alzheimer. First they trained the monkeys to identifying symbols and images, and then they gave her cocaine to reduce her intelligence. When the researchers repeat the test, using neural prosthetics who correct the functions of neurons disable, they could see how neural prosthetics can use to restore decisions-making in humans.

George Dvorsky of the Institute for Ethics and Emerging Technologies thinks that we can't equalize the science fictions yet, because we need technology that we haven’t yet. But he says that is important continue investigating for the great profits we can get.

Uplifting produce a big moral dilemma, too: while some think that it’s great for humans and for the rest of species improve their intelligence a lot of people think that it is immoral and we don’t have enough authority to take this decision for them.

The title of the news attracts my attention mainly because I like sciences and I like know how they improve as fast as we advance. The news sets out something that at the moment we only knew thanks science fiction films or imagination. But suddenly some scientists in some part of the world are developing the same. In my opinion it’s amazing. Every time we are inventing and discovering more things that few years ago it seemed impossible. All have a lot of applications, for example, in medicine and help us to get better life.  

The news tell us about the new concept “uplifting”, that it means the capacity to create animals with different levels of intelligent until equalize the human intelligent. At first it seems impossible and probably strange, too. But it is true and in a future we can do it.

On the one hand I think that it would be extraordinary because who has never tried to  your pet? But on the other hand I believe that it is not something that we can do and we haven’t have enough “power” over the rest of species, although we think the opposite. We could break the evolution and evolution takes a lot of time. If we do it we could have a lot of negative effects for the way to live in the earth.

My name is Berta and I’m 16 years old. I was born in Figueres and since then I have lived in Sant Pere Pescador. I studied in the school of St. Pere and then I went to Castelló d’Empúries for start the ESO. Now I’m already in Castelló studding science high school diploma and when I finish that I would like study at university. I don’t know what study yet or where.  

I have always liked all kind of sports but my favorite is football. I’m playing in a team and I enjoy it very much. Apart from playing I like follow the different matches. Another thing that I like very much is travel and visit new and different places. I don’t care if is near here or abroad. I like to know different things about the past or the present.

I have two more hobbits but sometimes I don’t have enough time to enjoy them, one is reading and the other one is watch films. Now, during the school year I can practice these activities as long as I like but when we have holidays I try to practice these more often.

I’m studding English since 2006. I started in 3^rd of primary in school and I go to an academy to make particular classes. Apart of learn English I speak Catalan and Spanish that is my mother language. I think that the English is very important because a lot of people speak it although it isn’t the language of his country. I would like to speak more languages but it is difficult to learn and I’m not good in this.
